United Nations Navy

The United Nations Navy or simply UNN is the naval branch of the United Nations Military. It is commanded by the Secretary-General, but this task is usually filled in by UN High Command, Highcom or Fleetcom for short. High Command is made up of the most senior officers of the Navy. They are followed by the Fleet Commander this is usually a Fleet Admiral, the Flag Officers and at the end of the Chain the Commanding Officers of each individual ship.

The Fleet Commander is granted a seat in the United Nations Security Council. He may be represented by another member of Fleetcom, usually the commander of home fleet. Additionally members of Fleetcom are called into meetings or have semi permanent seats due to their positions particular importance in certain matters or the UN in general.

UN High Command is made up of the most senior members of the UNN. They make the overall tactical decisions and communicate directly with the Secretary-General. The Official UNN Fleet Command Government building is located in New York at the UN Government Complex.

After years of cold war and tensions between Earth and Mars the MCRN and the UNN formed the Earth-Mars Coalition Navy, a joint naval war force tasked with keeping the solar system safe.

This Coalition was shattered during the Eros Incident when the UN was preparing to start a war with Mars, though a war was avoided and a coalition fleet was temporarily established to deal with the Eros Incident.

However, after the MCRN attempt to land a shuttle at Eros and the UNN firing warning shots, tensions rise between the two forces. A battle is only prevented by Eros, which starts to speed up giving the two military forces a common goal.

Once again Earth and Mars work together.

As a reaction to the ever growing tensions on the belt and on its colonies the UNN tries to evacuate all its citizens from Ceres. Word got out about the UN's retreat and once again Ceres Station sinks into chaos.
In the end, the evacuation is largely successful and most UNN forces consolidate to Io and Ganymede.

However, a violent faction of the OPA takes over the Ceres Station AWP and forces the remaining Martians and Earthers out of the station.

Earth and Mars prepare to launch a joint counter-attack to regain control of the AWP from the OPA terrorists holding it.

After countless moments of tension over several months, the stressed relationship between the UNN and the MCRN terminate themselves in a firey spark.

Above Ganymede, both UNN and MCRN engage each other provoked by the explosion of a UNN vessel.
After several days of violent fighting, both in orbit and on the ground the fighting dies down.

Thousands of lives are lost and Ganymedes Infrastructure lays in ruins.

Following the tensions and events at Io, the UN and MCR began taking steps towards each other and a reestablishment of the EMCN.

UNN Operating Forces

The United Nations Navy is made up of multiple Fleets, these fleets, in turn, are made up of smaller battlegroups, some of which have specific additional classifications such as Cruisergroups or Wolfpack groups these groups usually have a specific purpose that they fulfill. Often the UNN creates temporary Task Forces, these can vary vastly in size, from actual fleet sized task forces to mere battlegroup sized units.

A fleet is usually led by a Rear Admiral or higher, though there have been occasions were a Commodore has been given Command of a fleet.
Within every fleet though, one vessel will be designated as the flagship, from which the commanding officer of the fleet will conduct command and control. While the flagship is often the largest, most heavily-armed, or otherwise most significant ship of the fleet, it ultimately is a temporary designation that can be transferred to any vessel the commanding officer may need to command the fleet from.

The UNN possess a number of standing fleets, these include, but are not limited to, the:

UNN Home Fleet
UNN Jupiter Fleet
UNN Saturn Fleet

Though often new fleets and smaller battle groups are created to fill temporary duties, especially in times of war.
