    Tycho Station Cargo Bay Three

It was the strangest collection of people that Morne had ever set eyes on. Eight OPA faction leaders were here. Three in typical spacer jumpsuits, two in well pressed business suits, three looked more like trained killers than negotiators. They were all criminal gang leaders who had turned slightly more legitimate to join the cause.

On the other side of the table was the martian delegation. Four armoured marines hovered by the doors. They likely had enough firepower to bring down every member of the OPA stationed on Tycho. Out in space was a Martian missile frigate, likely with nuclear warheads that could turn Tycho Station and the Nauvoo to dust. They hadn't brought a warfleet. Martians were efficient like that. They had brought just enough power to make the statement that needed to be made.

On the far side of the bay was a projected symbol of Tycho Engineering. Some things were easier to show rather than tell. They had images and video of evidence gathered at Thoth Station and down in the holds below some of it to be shown in person.

"I want to thank you all for coming," @Morne du Plessis said, standing up. His accent was a thick mix of belter and afrikaans but he spoke slowly and clearly. He passed a small piece of plastic down to one of the OPA leaders who continued passing it on.

"We have a lot to discuss. Ceres is obviously important and we want to discuss our role there. More pressing is the matter of Phoebe station. We know, or have enough information to paint a picture of what happened to your research team. That identity badge is from the deputy lead researcher from Protogen on Phoebe. They are currently alive and well two floors below us. Protogen - we believe acting with the UN - have been working to weaponise advanced technology. The situation at Eros is because those fookers..."

He was interrupted by a metallic thud that resounded through the entire station.

"One moment..." Morné stepped back from the table. "What was that?" he hissed. There was always a headset wrapped around one of his ears. He always had a terminal either strapped to his left wrist or projecting onto glasses. He never strayed far from technology.

"Something just struck the docking bays. We didn't pick anything up on the sensors. Could have been a stealth torp but it hasn't detonated."

"Give me cameras," Morné replied, waving from his assistant towards the wall behind him. He almost entirely ignore the Martians. Onto the wall was projected a view of the docking bay doors. They had been smashed inwards. The view changed to show cargo containers strewn about the floor. Another view showed several bloody people lying prone on the ground. If the impact hadn't killed them them then the vacuum soon would.

The view switched to a new camera.

Morné fell uncharacteristically silent. He took half a step back away from the image and then spoke quickly into his head set loudly enough that everyone could hear.

"Prepare to launch Behemoth. Get civilians to escape pods. Lock down that deck and get security down there." He turned towards the Martian delegation. Much of the blood had left his face. "Any of you... Know what the fook that is?"

Outside a thousand drones detached from Tycho Station. A haze of insects swarming around the great barrel of the Nauvoo. The docking tether was kept in place between the station and the ship as an escape route for those on board Tycho.

    Information:
    • One Martian vessel is in the system. No others are close enough to mount an immediate rescue (don't bring any of your favourite ships closer if you don't want to risk them going down!)
    • A stealth torpedo carrying a protosoldier, launched from Io, has struck Tycho Station
    • The protosoldier is between the delegation and the main docking bays
    • 20 minutes light travel time to Mars

    - Tycho station -

As Yalara Sien had ordered. Zay must have moved his ass out of Mars. Here he is not only outside his comfortable environment, the political plots and the heat of a cup of tea, but far into the depths of the space in the territory widely perceived as being under the influence of the OPA.

Honestly, he didn't bother her at first. The idea of being able to go into space and perhaps have access before everyone else to key information was very appealing to him. He could even feel the excitement he had when he was in Military Intelligence.

Speaking of military, he had to deal with his son's bullshit just before he left. "Bullshit" is a big word. That jerk had a dispute with his mission AI. He thought he would be punished, but he didn't. A simple analysis of the AI in question revealed that it was the latter who had a problem with his head and not his son. Her son's fall had damaged the medical sensors on her head and the AI had therefore made a wrong diagnosis. So the problem solves itself. Except for the images he brought back that are...how to say...disturbing.

The trip went well. He publicly announced a surprise vacation to the depths of the solar system and left. But the further the journey progressed, the more a feeling he thought he had disappeared since his departure from the intelligence was coming back. A feeling of imminent danger, a strong bad impression and the adrenaline that runs through her body. He had blamed it on the stress due to the importance of the meeting. But nothing to do. He remained like a leech.

Now he's in the same room as... but I'm dreaming where they look more like professional fucking assassins than legitimate OPA representatives?!

The members of the martian delegation are mostly Zay's pawns and allies. Obviously, he wasn't going to go to people known not to like the inner planets and bringing enemies with him. We simply call it suicide or a crazy desire to die.

Zay listens carefully to every word that came out of Morné's mouth. Each word draws a complex plan in his head. And there's a little more light in his head. It brightens up a board a little more, no! A chess game of which he was unaware until now. Whose goals and pawns he still doesn't know. But it's information he'll soon have in his pocket.

Zay stands on both feet as the marines arm their guns in a defensive position. His earpiece, discreet and hidden in the bottom of his ear, diffuses the sound of the voice of one of the marines.

    - Sir, it's the characteristic sound of something piercing the outside wall of a station. Someone's attacking us!

Zay reached out his hand for a gun so he could defend himself. No soldier present had the stupid idea to refuse him the request. And Zay slips the gun into his inside pocket of his suit. He makes a knot with his scarves, useless as a sure thing but stylish, to prevent him from running away if he starts running.

Zay and his guards simply looked at the cameras, which projected a real mess on the wall.

    - By the gods, drop out one of the members of the delegation.

Zay opened his mouth wide to say something. Then close it before adding

    - And fuck, it's the same shit as on Ganymede. Our chances of survival have just dropped to a critical point, guys!

He had closed his mouth because he was in the middle of an inner conflict. The video was classified! But he had a copy that didn't come from the files. So legally, he could defend himself.

    - Fuck it, we're in the same boat now!

Zay broadcasts, thanks to his hand terminal, a video showing United Nations soldiers being massacred by the same creature. The monster doesn't even react to the soldiers' attacks. Neither bullets nor rockets stop him.

    - There was very, very little time ago. The United Nations has sent a naval intelligence team to Ganymede. Mars found it suspicious to send the team and decide to send my son to investigate.

Zay gives them a moment to look at the broadcast video. Panic murmurs were heard from the Martian delegation.

    - This video and numerous video and photo evidence suggests that the Earth has lost control of its new weapon!

This is the most popular theory currently used in analytical reports. But let's be honest, what are the other credible scenarios? On the side of his delegation, they are all terrified. Of course only Zay knew about it.

Zay leaves the video played in full. The devastation in the streets, the bloodstains, the innocent civilian deaths. He looks away from the video and puts them on Morné. The marine , behind Zay, turned their weapons towards the gates and walls. Members of the delegation standing up waiting for instructions and staring at the horror images. Zay stays straight like a spade and waits for the next...

    Tycho Station, Cargo Bay Three

Scarsi stood at the outer wall of the repurposed cargo bay.
He had accompanied the Ceres OPA representative to this meeting, he had taken Carter three other OPA Bodyguards from diffrent Ceres Factions.
Blois had decided to remain on Ceres, letting him take care of the political representation of the CIF.

He closely listened to Mornes speech almost falling into a trance, he was so focused on filtering out information, decypering meaning and watching reactions thst he didnt´t even hear the sound, but when he noticed that Morne changed topic he fell out of his analizing trance, startled up and focused again.

Watching the Camera feed, Kea became more and more terrified.

"Boss, what are gonnja do about dat?" asked Carter.

    "Die, mi guess"

The whole room was now filled with voices martians talking over each other trying to determine if they should nuke the station, OPA men screaming over each other everyone wanting to do what they thought waas right and in the midst of it Morne du Plessis, calm and deceisive, giving out orders and trying to keep everyone calm.

Then the Martian spoke, Zay Boussaa, his voice dominated the room, calming the chaos for a bit.

    He took a step forward.

"Da Duster is right. We may not like each other dat much, some even hate some people in dis room, but we are all in dis shit together. If we dont work wit each other we are all gonna die, I know some of you would consider dat but think about it." he paused for a few seconds.

"The belt needs us alive, every single one of us." he crossed his arms over his chest and looked around, Carter thowering behind him.

His expression turned hard. Morné wasn't thinking of the impending fate at the hands of the weaponised protomolecule. He was thinking about the fact that they had been betrayed again. A UN spy had incited the OPA factions to turn their arms on each other and in that mess Fred Johnson had died on this very station.

He thought they had made progress to expunge all the spies in their ranks, but in an organisation as loosely organised as the OPA it was probably an impossible task. Not when the resources of the UN were being used to try and disrupt their plans.

Morné shook his head slowly. He had never been a leader. It had made him feel physically sick watching belters die on Thoth Station for the cause, knowing that decisions he had made led directly to people being snuffed out of existence.

"You tell Mars dat Progoten killed your scientists and deliberately infected Eros," Morné stated in a quiet growl. If nothing else that message had to be heard. Swiping up on the terminal on his wrist he started to transfer collected evidence to Zay. He hadn't wanted to give it up, he had wanted to negotiate on Ceres behalf for a new peace. It was a snap decision, but he couldn't have them all die here and fail to achieve anything.

"Bossmang, its tearing its way out. With its hands. Its in hard vacuum right now," came the voice of Isaac, the dockmaster, in his ear.

"Fook. Give it an airlock and then seal it off. We can't lose pressure throught da station."

Morné had already started to run for the exit. They had a long run to get the Behemoth. If they were lucky they would get there before the monster.

"You lot found da fooking stuff," he shouted in an accusatory tone at the Martians as they went. "How did they make dat already!?"

They had assumed that because it was released raw on Eros that it was the extent of Protogen's capabilities to release it and observe. The scientists on Thoth had told them of grand possibilities to reshape the human race, but no one had thought they could have come this far already.

"Mi thinks it da right time to leave boss" said Carter, standing behind Scarsi.

"You might be right, take care of our guy Carter." ordered Kea as he turned around to him.
"Try not to loose him, he´s more important than me right now"

"Ugh, fine, Mi is gonna keep mis eyes on him" Carter replied begrudingly.

Scarsi decided to leave with the last men and women, making sure they´d get out of the danger zone.

One of the last people leaving was the martian who had gotten so much attention earlier so
    spectaculary.
He decided that the last people would manage to find their way themselves and caught up with the Martian.

"Hello, I believe we haven´t meet yet. People all me Scarsi" he greeted the Martain Representative while matching his running speed.

Zay received the data on his handheld terminal. He watches Morne walk away from him, with a taste of anger in his mouth. He wasn't going to let a fucking steroid smurf ruin this meeting! They may be suspicious of Mars now.... A stealth missile that carries a monster that only Zay has video evidence of. This is suspicious.

WHAIT! A STEALTH MISSILE! How dafuq can be possible! Has anyone in the Republic betrayed us? Zay starts sweating with fear. He always thought he wouldn't get any betrayal from this side. Nothing will stop the traitors from killing him once they return to Mars.

This makes it even more urgent to build an alliance with these people.

    - Sir, the instructions?

    - Approach the corvette and evacuate all personnel. Tell the captain that he must prepare the shock team, they will have to go hunting. The corvette must be ready at all times to bring with it additional members, which means refugee.

Three of the four marines left their formations to escort the delegation while the fourth remains with Zay. Zay begins to accelerate the pace towards Morné.

    - You were attacked by a stealth missile and a fucking monster. What does our enemies have in store for us? Let me offer you my help, I have a corvette that can escort the Nauvoo. And a team to help you kill the bastard. We have to help each other, I can't just go back to Mars with the data like nothing happened!

Zay slowed down the pace, he had just received a message from the corvette in question. The captain asked him for information. Which is what Zay is trying to do the fastest. While pianoting, Zay thinks of the ship he came here with. He didn't come with the corvette, the corvette escorted his government civilian transport ship.

Zay raised the head of his hand terminal and let out a nervous laugh.

    - I just found out just like you that this thing came from Phoebe and they found out about it from us. When it comes to this monster, I told you, it hasn't even been a few weeks, not a few days since we discovered it on Ganymede. As we speak to each other, our analysts are sincerely wondering if this is not just a joke put together by the Earth.

Zay stops for a moment to think about what's next. And above all, to continue giving orders to the captain.

The man was a representative of the OPA. The section on Ceres, if he abuses it. He resumed his walking pace and shook Scarsi's hand

    - Zay, chief of the martian prime minister office. A title that means both everything and nothing. Zay gave him his most kind smile

He stopped shaking hands and continued towards the Nauvoo with the others.
At the same time as Scarsi.

    - So you're the representative of the Ceres branch?

Damien knew how to take advantage of life when the opportunity presented itself. No matter what people said, he finds the brothels at Tycho Station as good as anywhere else. After finishing his misadventures, he decided to enjoy a delicious drink at the nearby bar. A good drink after sex, what could be better?

While sipping, he scrolls through the information on his handheld terminal. Nothing interesting, actually yes, there are some interesting things. But not exactly what he wants. With his fingers he scrolls through the proposed information without ever coming across those he is interested in. Nothing about data leaks caused by it, nothing about data leaks caused by it, nothing. He really starts to think the case was hushed up when he sees the Health Media logo.

Whait!? He folds his eyes when he stares at the logo.

A metallic noise can be heard and the lights suddenly change to red and an alarm, present but not uncomfortable or deafening, sounds. He comes out of the bar and discovers that the whole station is in alert mode.

On his terminal, the station authorities ask to head towards the Nauvoo ships and that this is not an exercise.

What the hell is going on?

Scarsi nervously shook the mans hand.

"Uh yeah well, not really no" he said nervously.

And another insecure laugh later "I am part of his accompanying delegation."

He continued to follow Morne who was actually just a bit ahead of them.
Apparently some of the others had decided to try their luck somewhere else.

"How are you planning to kill the fucking thing?! I mean we all saw dat material, de thing is literally unkillable" said Scarsi, his voice frantic.

Zay is squinting a little. Seems a little lacking in confidence, but it will come in time.

    -
All monsters have a weak point. The blue susbtance, nicknamed the protomolecule by his earthbound assholes, may be alien. But the monster we see there is certainly of human conception. Everything we do can be destroyed. If it's not the bullets, it's something else!

    Zay rubs his chin.

    - We still haven't tried the vacuum, the high temperatures, the antimatter... Zay looks at the reaction of his interlocutor and smiles . Is a joke. I don't have any antimatter on hand. And I'm not planning on nuking the tycho station.

"It was just in a vacuum," Morné said bluntly. "Didn't bother it. And neither, apparently, do most rounds. Neither do bulkheads."

Morné had his eyepiece back on. It had been showing him an augmented reality view to navigate through the station. A clip flicked up of three tycho security guards kneeling with small carbines. They had ten metres of empty corridor ahead of them. The creature stalked down it towards them. The had it dead to rights, opening up with automatic fire.

It only seemed to hasten their bloody deaths. Morné felt sick, watching the creature rip through a titanium reinforced steel door as if it were cardboard.

"Boss!" shouted one of the OPA delegation. It was Frédéric, a young man with shaggy black hair who had just joined them from the Io operation. The door ahead of them was sealed, a blinking red vacuum warning over it.

"Fook." The entire station groaned. "We need to suit up." He tapped on his terminal and the directions altered. Two corners to some emergency compartments with vacuum suits. "Your big boys got explosive rounds?" he asked Zay.

He was about to comment on the antimatter when he saw the vac sealed door.

"Maybe, we just gotta shoot it long enough ke?"

Now Scarsi really wished he had taken a gun with him, he didn´t like them, guns always led to violence, which always led to people dying.
He played with the thought of asking the Martians to borrow him a pistol or something but decided that they wouldn´t ever give him one so there was no point in asking.

Zay takes a look in the direction of the marines.

    - Sorry, sire, we only have one cartridge of explosive bullet. Security protocols strongly advise against carrying this type of thing on a station.

    Zay rolls his eyes

    - Yah, we have explosive bullets for do what?

One of the marines handed him a special combination of transparent colour. Here it was a model tested on the Simurgh. Faster to put on than a normal combination. The marine seems to have plenty in his storage space integrated into the armor.

Zay give back both his arms, then his legs. The fabric of the suit made a noise when it connected to the visor. And all the fabric compresses and closes the closure on the back. It inserts emergency air cartridges into the designated ports under the visor. Zay activates the visor visor and makes an thumb up. He activates the loudspeaker of his visor.

    - I have plenty if anyone wants one....

Morné gave a shake of his head and opened a door to a rack of suit. They were all black with blue stripes across the shoulders that joined up the Tycho logos.

A moment before he slipped his eyepiece off he saw how deep the creature had already cut into Tycho Station. His home for the last few years was wounded badly. The creature wasn't slowing down as it progressed towards the centre of the station.

"Sir, a ship just powered on a few thousand clicks away."

Morne turned sharply towards Zay and the Martian delegation. "Did you hide a fucking stealth ship off my station?" he demanded. They hadn't. The Nephthys had come in slow and silent over several days.

"Closing fast!" came the shout in his ear.

"Charge capacitors on the... Nauvoo!" Morne shouted into his radio. That wouldn't help. By the time they were powered up ship would be on top of them. He had a suspicion it was the class of ship he had hoped to see the last of.

Zay frowned as several colours passed over her face.

    - Mars, as far as I know, has not deployed any stealth ships near your station at all. Which means that Protogen has a stealth weapon or..... members of my government are trying to kill me. Which wouldn't surprise me with everything that just fell on us.

As the door closes, Zay reflects furiously on the current situation. The assholes who attack them have already deployed an invincible monster to kill them. And now he's carrying around some I don't know where, a stealth ship is. Whait!

Damien runs in the same direction as the others. No one has taken the trouble, so far, to indicate the cause of the total evacuation of the station. The only information he has in his pocket is as follows: Security forces strongly encourage evacuation and everyone takes the alert very seriously. And two, complete sections of the station are locked and depressed.

He has seen many things in life, but this situation is completely new. What could justify the evacuation of a station of Tycho Station's importance? This type of station is large enough to be able to manage multiple problems without having to evacuate the entire station or endanger the population. He had to stop his race, in front of him crowded people eager like him to evacuate.

Suit are distributed while people wait for their turns to board boats that will drop them off in the Nauvoo. Since the nearest access road is far too far away and probably crowded. Something tells Damien that he might be stuck here if it continues....

The captain spent the last few hours bored to death in weightlessness. The reason is that Zay chose her to lead an escort team for her little surprise trip to the depths of the solar system. He fully understands that Zay, a friend he met at the academy, is so paranoid that he only brings trusted people with him on trips outside Mars. It doesn't fucking matter if you drag your friends with you in your delusions into the depths of the solar system. Right now he should have done 10,000 other things much more fun than staying in a ship near the tycho station waiting for something to happen.

A warning beep is heard. Something seems to have hit the station, a missile that its radars have not detected! He immediately set to work and with the help of his officers tried to determine his trajectory to determine where it came from. But their efforts are in vain.

The command centre, which was empty and boring, suddenly came alive and the captain tried to organize things. They must repatriate the members of the delegation. They will wait for the Dun at a point planned in advance. When Zay, it seems he didn't indicate that he wants to be saved.

What are you playing at?", thinks the Captain.

    - Sir, we have a bigger problem! Our sensors just detected a stealth ship!

    - Impossible! Show me the sensors.

He's not dreaming, there is a stealth ship right in front of his eyes. They were hiding under their noses from the beginning. He takes out his terminal by hand and sends a message to Zay asking him for his authorization codes to consult encrypted files. Zay responds by sending him an authorization. The captain puts his terminal right next to the tablet where the sensor results are broadcast. A window appears:

    40%...55%...65%...75%...85%..99%...

"Inextant vessel in our database. Model not recognized. Trace of known Martian stealth technology, percentage of Martian stealth technology: unknown/impossible determined."

    - Fuckin' hell, someone else than us has stealth technology, we're really in trouble., "Let go of the captain, who is obviously troubled.

He sends the results to Zay.

Suddenly the expression on Mornes face changed.

Scarsis face turned into a pale wall.

"How much time do we have until they reach us?" he asked Morne.

Turning to Boussaa he said "You have a ship, right? I hope they are ready to defend the station. I don´t wanna die and you don´t seem to keen to that idea either"

    "We should get moving now."

There was a hiss as his helmet twisted into place. It didn't have a full HUD like his own suit so he was going to have to rely on radio.

"Enemy vessel has flipped. I'm detecting multiple torpedo launches. They've flipped again and are decelerating." The call from the ops deck made Morné's pulse race. They weren't ready for this.

"Fuck," Morné swore as he headed back towards the door. Everyone seemed to be suited up. "Someone seal that door behind us, we're going to have to depressurise the area and go down two decks. Quickly. We have torpedoes incoming. Four minutes out. Everyone brace."

He shook his head and yanked on the emergency lever. The door flung open and the air evacuated their section of corridor in a fraction of a second.

He switched his radio to broadcast locally on the open channel and hoped the Martians could still hear him.

"This is no emergency plan. To get into position to approach us without firing their main engine and being detected...to time it with the landing of that long range torpedo. Weeks of planning."

At least they still had spin. It would take several epstein drives an hour to slow Tycho Station enough to stop the spin.

Zay pianos on his hand terminal. The Dun will no longer leave this ship causing trouble.

    - Yes, but for what purpose? What are their objectives? Why blow everything up now!?

    MCRN Dùn

The captain and the rest of the crew are deeply anchored in their crash seats. The warship advances at high speed to intercept the stealth ship.

    - Sir, we have the torpedoes in sight. But we are too far away!

    - So accelerated before those damn torpedoes hit the station!

They sank into their seats as their speed increased.

Niamh's time on Tycho hadn't been entirely unpleasant. Her cooperation with the OPA had kept her from being spaced but she was still an unwelcome guest. She was fed, watered, allowed limited access to a terminal, but nothing more. Her days were spent alternating between examining samples that had been 'liberated' from Thoth or enduring hours of interrogation from OPA science and security specialists.

She knew many of the Belters hated her but her usefulness outweighed their desires for revenge. But she still tensed when armed men came into the cellblock, moving for her. Illogical she knew to feel fear. They wouldn't waste a bullet on her when they had the airlocks.

She rose to her feet as they entered, but didn;t expect the spacesuit shoved into her hands. "Put it on" ordered a grim faced woman and Niamh complied. Her trio of escorts were fidgeting, nervous and on edge. She was marched out into the corridor, one covering their rear while the other two fanned out front.
